Thomas Kinkade Malma frame

I've been playing again Lol!  This time I printed out one of the lovely toppers on the Joanna Sheen Thomas Kinkade 3 Disk set by taking it into my graphics program so that I could enlarge the image and print it onto 2 pieces of paper (to join together on the frame) plus I printed one onto some old vintage piano music sheets to over lay part of the image on the frame.  The first thing I did was paint the frame with some Annie Sloane paint and then stuck the image on it with some elmers glue. Once it was dry I sanded the edges to add some ageand then waxed the whole lot and touched it up with a little bit of Pebeo gilding wax. I stuck some crochet lace ribbon around the mirror.  The corner tabs are brads from a kit I've had ages so I'm not sure where you can get them now. I rubbed a bit of the gilding wax onto them to bling them up.

Decoupage Malma frame

I've decorated malma frames on and off for years.  I love the way they are such a blank canvas for any type of decoration and they are soo inexpensive Lol!

I wanted to share a cool technique that is new to me (it's probably been around for ages Lol) 

I've had a pile of old (almost vintage I would say) piano manuscript books in my stash for ages and have used them for a few craft projects already., but the other day I saw something on pinterest that made me wonder if I could wax onto inkjet print..and decopage with it. I have never done that before because of the inkjet ink smugding.. but I thought 'what if I used Annie sloane clear wax on it to seal it'... so I decided to experiment.  I dug out the piano music sheets and printed florals onto some..  There are some poems inwith some of the music sheets so I printed on one of those too.  I think they look really pretty next to each other...the music doesn't match the poem on this frame as I didn't realise in my eagerness to experiment Lol, but I have made sure to keep matching poems and music together for the next frames I do.  I was in such a hurry that I just couldn't wait to paint the frame first so I inked it to make it look old instead... but I know it will look so much better when I paint the next one first.

I carefully glued the floral music sheets to the frame by applying glue to paper first so I didn't get any glue on top.  When it was dry, I distressed the edges with sandpaper and then applied Annie sloane wax, after that dried I buffed with a soft cloth and then added a small amount of pebeo gilding wax to the edges for a tiny bit of bling.

I am really pleased with the result and I can't wait to make lots more Lol.

More decorated Malma Frames

It's been a while since I've posted anything here, I've been busy designing new stamps.  I also had great fun a few weeks ago when I actually got round to decorating some Malma frames (sold by Ikea) for my daughter-in-Law.  She loved the ones I decorated a few years ago and I promised to do her some too.. it's taken this long!.  I have done these in exactly the same way as the previous ones.

I added the gold foil highlights so they will match the walls they want to hang them on.

I enjoyed making these so much and had a bit of free time so I went on to decorate another one for my daughter's friend who loves orange.  I added copper foiling for the highlights and a lovely Red/orange holographic foil with my hot foil pen.  I found a large button with a lovely texture, so I hot foiled that to match. It seems nothing is safe when I have the hot foiling pen out LOL!

  .. so this wasn't enough for me ... I still had the urge to carry on with the hot foil pen... so I made a key hanger as well.  I painted it purple and then added the Red/orange holographic foils with the hot foil pen. and the copper highlights

Mosaic Malma frames...

I've been sort of addicted to decorating these really cheap frames over the last couple of years on and off. I thought I'd put a few more on my blog that I did earlier this year ... here goes....
I call these ones 'Shabby Chic' look. I used the untreated pine frames for these. Firstly, I painted them white using acrylic paints. I covered the entire front surface with a strong double sided tape. I punched out literally hundreds of 1cm squares choosing the colours carefully. I foiled my own papers for my mosaic mirrors using various pearl, holographic and pale coloured foils. I only worked on a one strip of tape peeled back at a time sticking each square on carefully and leaving equal gaps inbetween them. Once I finished covering all the frame I sprinkled white glitter to fill in as the 'grout' and to complete them I stuck pretty sequins around the mirror itself.

I made these the same way but with the darker frame available in Ikea (so no painting it first) and using darker coloured foiled papers. and black glitter as the 'grout'. The photos don't really do them justice as they look so much more vibrant and metallic for real.

Decorated Ikea Malma frame

Over the last few years I have really enjoyed decorating these mirror frames in lots of different ways. They make fantastic gifts for friends and family..and I have even sold some. Here are my latest creations..

I love purples. Here's how I did it just in case you wanna know.. I cut pieces of embossed wallpaper and stuck them to the frames, then I painted them a few times with acrylic paints giving a good covering., then I used a hot foiling pen to apply some beautiful puple foil in the plain areas. I added sequins and gems just to glam them up a bit too.
These were a gift to my Son's girlfriend who really likes them as they will match her newly decorated purple bedroom.
I wonder if anyone reading this likes to decorated frames.. I'd love to see your creations too.
